Statement from Fourth Monkey Education on Platform Youth Hub
In December 2021, we were truly delighted to have been awarded the tender to manage and operate Platform Youth Hub in Islington. Our vision for its future was to co-design with young people in the local community new projects and services to enhance the current youth service and arts provision for them. We also hoped to reimagine and reignite the venue as a vibrant community arts space at the heart of North Islington, encouraging engagement and providing performing arts opportunities for everyone. Fourth Monkey Education and Islington Council have worked closely over the last three months to try and realise these ambitions.
Unfortunately, as further detail emerged after the tender was successful, it became clear that we could not take on the management and operation of Platform in the way outlined in our proposal. After careful consideration and discussions with Islington Council, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw.
Fourth Monkey Education are fully committed to maintaining and enhancing the range of Outreach opportunities we currently offer. We wish to make our position clear, in that we are committed to continuing to work with Islington Council and the other exceptional service providers involved with the Islington Locality Networks. Everyone’s aim remains to develop an exciting new youth and community provision for the young people of Islington and to help deliver the new Universal Youth Offer.
The power of theatre is rooted in the diversity of story, thought and creative process. We will continue to engage with and celebrate young people in Islington who represent that diversity and have a range of lived experiences and their own unique stories to tell; providing them a new platform from which they can be heard.
Enhancing the lives of young people so that they reach their fullest potential is a core element of the Fourth Monkey philosophy and will always remain so.
