What is an Emerging Artist?
At the start of their careers, full of potential and brimming with innovative ideas to challenge, inspire and redefine.
Emerging artists are the future of culture and the creative industries.
Yet, early-career artists often face barriers to accessing opportunities, funding and support.
At Fourth Monkey, we believe in levelling the playing field. Through our Emerging Artists Fund, we provide access to professional training, mentorship, performance platforms and creative networks that empower talented individuals to turn their ambitions into realities.

Fourth Monkey is committed to nurturing talent:

-
Over 2000 emerging artists engaged annually.
-
£350,000 awarded in scholarships and bursaries to date.
-
Leading the charge for breaking down barriers as the originators of the No-Fee Audition.
-
The annual Full Circle Festival and Act of Rebellion events showcase new talent and create professional networks whilst the our access & participation ambassador programme and Shizaru - The Fourth Monkey Ensemble offers Fourth Monkey graduates and alumni professional employment.
Success Stories
The impact of supporting emerging artists is best seen through their achievements.
From securing roles on world-class stages to creating ground-breaking new work, these stories are a testament to the power of investment in talent.
Here are just a few of the incredible journeys made possible by our Emerging Artists Fund:
Shardé Neikaiya
Having engaged in a workshop as part of our access and participation programme - which delivers free performing arts workshops to over 2000 young adults each year - Shardé auditioned, with no fee, for the 2-year Accelerated BA Acting course and received a scholarship to complete their training at Fourth Monkey in London.
After graduating, Shardé made their professional debut in the Jamie Lloyd Co. production of Romeo & Juliet at The Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End.
Mia Jerome
Mia epitomises our ideal Emerging Artist journey. Her path through free workshop to free audition, training supported by a scholarship and graduating into a successful career as an actor and maker.
Mia was recently nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor In A Play at the Black British Theatre Awards.
How We Support Emerging Artists
At Fourth Monkey, we provide a holistic support system to help emerging artists unlock their full potential. Every initiative we deliver is designed to remove barriers, foster creativity and equip artists with the tools they need to thrive.

-
Workshops: Targeted at underrepresented communities, our outreach efforts provide pathways for those who might otherwise be excluded from the arts.

-
Progression Partnerships: We work collaboratively with a number of further education providers to ensure students are informed and inspired by a pathway to higher education.

-
Scholarships & Bursaries: Ensuring students can afford not just their fees but the rising cost of relocation, rent and resources is at the core of the Emerging Artist Fund.
-
Degree Courses: We offer the most affordable, accessible and inclusive training at every level and give students a clear pathway to achieving their learning ambitions.

-
Performance Platforms: Emerging artists gain invaluable experience working with our professional theatre company, Shizaru - The Fourth Monkey Ensemble, showcasing their work in the Full Circle Festival and networking with peers and industry professionals at our annual fundraising event Act of Rebellion.
Our Emerging Artists Fund ensures that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of talent. Our supporter's generosity powers these initiatives. Every pound donated goes directly towards creating opportunities for emerging talent.
